Missing Chibok Girls: Parents Want Case Closed

It’s been more than four months since over 200 girls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from their school in Chibok, Borno state and all attempts to rescue the girls from their abductors hasn’t yielded any positive result. Now the parents of the abducted girls want the matter closed as they have presumed their girls dead and funeral rites have already been performed in their (parents’) minds according to their custom. Their stance was disclosed by the # BringOurGirls advocacy group, yesterday, August 22, during its daily sit-out meeting for the rescue of the missing school girls at Unity Fountain, Abuja, Vanguard reports. All the parents want from the Federal Government is the corpses of their daughters so they bury them honourably, the advocacy group revealed. The group called on the government to put in more effort to secure the release of the girls, saying only political and military action can rescue the girls. The group revealed that they would soon be holding a mega protest march in the FCT and they were already mobilizing people on and offline and via social media and they have been getting positive response. The group added a new slogan # NotWithoutOurDaughters! in response to a question on when it will stop the campaign. After the chibok girls abduction on April 14, there were reports that some of them escaped but a large a number of the girls are still being held captive by the insurgents. On July 22, 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan met with the parents of the abducted girls and and some of the Chibok girls who managed to escape from their captors . Following the recent trend of using female suicide bombers to carry out terrorist mission, there have been fears that the Chibok girls may have been brainwashed by their captors and turned into suicide bombers. Britain has however come to Nigeria’s aid in the rescue mission of the abducted girls as the country’s Royal Air Force plans to send three fighter jets to help in locating the girls .
